LOL: Hanson texting Routt
The Gary Lieberstein media hotline is cold. In other words, nothing new from the Napa County district attorney on Cable vs. Hanson, as of Wednesday early evening.
In the locker room today, though, cornerback Stanford Routt said he’s had “a conversation or two” with Randy Hanson, the former assistant defensive coach who alleged that Tom Cable decked him in August.
“He’s been my third-down coach for the past, ever since the ’06 season, and I know he’s helped me out a lot in the nickel and playing in the slot, with my improvement and awareness in the slot, so I’m always going to have a good relationship with him, you know what I mean?” Routt said. “I remember, we were playing the Broncos or Chargers, he may send me a text message saying, ‘Hey, watch out for this play, they like to do it.’ I don’t really let what happened (between Cable and Hanson) get to me. I don’t take sides on anything like that.”
Hanson’s attorney, San Francisco-based John McGuinn, told an NFL Network reporter at one point that Hanson has been working with Raiders’ defensive backs on strategy, using a laptop with downloaded film. Routt said he doesn’t know anything about that.
The nickel back insisted the Raiders players don’t talk much about the legal issue that threatens to ensnare their coach.
“We’re here to win games, not be liked,” Routt said. “You know, this isn’t a boy scouts-type club. It’s a football team, and you either win or lose and that’s the point of being here.”
