Murphy, Johnson join injured

by Instant.Raiders

A week or two ago, coach Tom Cable said the Raiders were on the verge of getting healthy. He sounded excited about the prospect.

Now it looks like the team is regressing instead of healing.

WR Louis Murphy and CB Chris Johnson joined the walking wounded today. Both left practice early, Murphy with a sore hip and Johnson with a sore groin. They join RB Darren McFadden (knee), DE Greg Ellis (knee), WR Chaz Schilens (foot), RT Cornell Green (calf), LB Ricky Brown (ankle), backup QB Bruce Gradkowski (flu) and KR Nick Miller (shin), none of whom practiced. Ellis has been resting his knee during the week and playing on Sundays, so he’ll probably be able to go against the Chargers. The others, I would think, are long shots.

If Johnson can’t play, nickel back Stanford Routt would be the logical replacement on Sunday. Murphy’s absence would really hurt. If he and Schilens are both down, the Raiders will be left with Darrius Heyward-Bey, Todd Watkins, Johnnie Lee Higgins and Javon Walker at receiver; those four have combined for nine receptions in 2009.

On the bright side, LG Robert Gallery (fibula) is practicing again, though he is limited, and Gerard Warren (ribs) appears to be at full strength.
