Lane Kiffin + USC = perfect

by Instant.Raiders

When the news broke that Pete Carroll was heading from USC to the Seattle Seahawks, the first name that surfaced as a possible replacement was Oregon State’s Mike Riley. Oh, no, I thought. Not Riley. That’s all wrong. Well, Mike Riley isn’t going to South-Central L.A. Lane Kiffin is. And all is right with the universe.

Cable fired! No, wait…

by Instant.Raiders

We in the media love to poke fun at the circus the Oakland Raiders have become, and especially their ringmaster, Al Davis. Well, on Monday we were part of the show, riding in circles on our tiny bicycles.

I love the Raiders — and I vote

by Instant.Raiders

The Pro Football Hall of Fame tried something different this year. As America’s most privileged football writers have winnowed down their candidates for induction, the Hall is also allowing fans to voice their opinions through an on-line vote. The lesson: Raiders fans are not only loyal, they’re Internet-savvy.

Crazy enough to think Cable might survive

by Instant.Raiders

Maybe I’m delusional, but I seem to be about the only media type around the Raiders beat who believes Tom Cable has a decent chance of returning for another season.

JaMarcus, Seymour skip year-end meeting

by Instant.Raiders

The Raiders had a full team meeting this morning, par for the course when an NFL team’s season ends. Everyone was there to hear Tom Cable’s postseason address to his players. Well, actually that’s not true. Two prominent players skipped the meeting: QB JaMarcus Russell and DE Richard Seymour.

Ravens 21, Raiders 13

by Instant.Raiders

Willis McGahee just darted through a gaping hole on the left side of the offensive line (the defense’s right side) and ran for 37 yards on third-and-4, all but wrapping up this game. We’re at the 2-minute warning and the Raiders are out of timeouts. Barring a miracle, Oakland will finish 5-11 and the Ravens are in the playoffs.

Ravens 21, Raiders 13

by Instant.Raiders

Well, the Raiders went three-and-out, and JaMarcus looked pretty bad, missing one open receiver and failing to see another. Baltimore has the ball just inside the 3-minute mark, and the Raiders have one timeout left.

Ravens 21, Raiders 13

by Instant.Raiders

Billy Cundiff just missed a 51-yard field goal, giving the Raiders one more chance to tie up this game. There’s 3:43 left. Safety Tyvon Branch ended the last drive by blitzing and forcing Flacco into an incompletion. Can JaMarcus lead another fourth-quarter comeback? Stay tuned.

Ravens 21, Raiders 13

by Instant.Raiders

JaMarcus did it again. He picked up first downs with pretty completions to Johnnie Lee Higgins and Louis Murphy. But on 2nd-and-9 from the Baltimore 25, he held the ball too long and LB Antwan Barnes stripped the ball from behind Russell. Dannell Ellerbe recovered for the Ravens, his second takeaway of the game.
